| The Helping Hand Fund of the Wethersfield/Rocky Hill Rotary Club was initially founded in 1949 by members of the Wethersfield Rotary Club. Incorporated initially as the Helping Hand Fund of the Rotary Club of Wethersfield, Incorporated, it is now known legally by its original name. The Fund is a separate Sec. 501(c)(3) organization and qualifies as a tax-exempt charitable entity recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. All contributions to the Fund are tax deductible.
Over the years the Fund has given away hundreds of thousands of dollars. At any given time there are approximately 20 to 25 Helping Hand Scholars receiving annual scholarship grants. Applicants must file a formal application, have that application co-signed by a parent or guardian, and submit to a personal interview by members of the Fund's scholarship committee. Scholars are required to keep in touch with the Fund and file with it each semester college transcripts certifying that they are meeting at least the minimum academic standards of their college or university.
Helping Hand Scholars must be residents of Wethersfield or Rocky Hill, Connecticut, USA. The scholarships are awarded for up to a four-year undergraduate course of study at an accredited college or university. Currently, each new Helping Hand scholarship is $10,000, payable at the rate of $2,500 per year in per semester installments during the Scholar's college career.
